Care and Cure for Parkinson's Research

An Evening of Manganiyar, Dhrupad, and Bharatanatyam Dance

Once again, appearing on stage Manganiyar Ustad Anwar Khan, of “The Maganiyar Seduction” together with renowned Dhrupad Masters Pandit Umakant Gundecha and Shri Anant Gundecha, the rhythmic expertise of Shri Akhilesh Gundecha on the Pakhawaj drum, and Bharatanatyam dancing by Rukmini Vijaykumar.

Manganiyar add the folk flavor of Indian music. Their songs are passed on from generation to generation as a form of oral history of the desert and performed for the kings in the palaces of Rajasthan, India.

The evening will showcase Dhrupad, one of the oldest forms of Indian classical music. It is a meditative art form that evokes a sense of tranquility and reflection. Its name reflects this peaceful essence preserving its original form and purity, emphasizing the precise expression of melodic modes (Ragas) and notes (Swaras).

In addition, a Bharatanatyam dancer performance by Rukmini Vijaykumar demonstrates the awe-inspiring flexibility, raw emotion, and unwavering physical strength of the human body.

This event is funded and produced by The Parikh Parivar Foundation. Profits from this performance benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
