Courtney Subramanian Elected to WHCA Board, Set to Lead in 2028-29

North America, Washington, D.C., USA: In a significant achievement for the Indian-American journalism community, Bloomberg News White House correspondent Courtney Subramanian has been elected to a three-year term on the board of the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA).

As part of her newly secured at-large board position, Subramanian is expected to serve as president of the association during the 2028-29 term, the final year of her board tenure.

Founded in 1914, the WHCA represents journalists covering the U.S. presidency, manages seating assignments in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room, and organizes the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner, one of Washington's most prominent media events.

Subramanian previously served on the WHCA board after being elected in 2023 while working as a White House correspondent for the Los Angeles Times. She later joined Bloomberg News, where she continues covering the White House and national politics.

A Chicago native with Indian-American roots, Subramanian is the daughter of an Indian father and an American mother. She earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and history from Miami University in Ohio and later completed a master's degree at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.

Over the years, she has gained recognition for her extensive coverage of multiple U.S. presidential administrations and has become a familiar presence in White House press briefings.

When she assumes the WHCA presidency in 2028, Subramanian will join a distinguished list of journalists who have led the organization. Her leadership will come at a time when debates surrounding press freedom, media access, and the relationship between government and news organizations remain central to American public discourse.

The WHCA board includes representatives from major media organizations such as CBS News, Fox News, ABC News, Reuters, and Getty Images. The association's presidency rotates annually among board members elected to at-large positions.

Subramanian is among the few journalists of South Asian heritage to serve on the WHCA board. Her upcoming leadership role highlights the growing diversity within American journalism and the continued contributions of Indian-American professionals to the U.S. media landscape.
