Bomb hoax: Air India Flight Diverted After Bomb Threat, Passengers Rescued by Canadian Air Force

A bomb threat forced an Air India flight carrying 211 passengers, including 20 crew members, to be diverted to Iqaluit Airport in Canada. The Canadian Air Force is now transporting the stranded passengers to Chicago. According to a statement from Air India on Wednesday, the Air Force aircraft departed Iqaluit at 03:54 UTC (11:54 PM local time) and is expected to reach Chicago around 07:48 UTC.

The flight, which had departed from Delhi on October 15, received the bomb threat online, leading to its precautionary diversion to Iqaluit. Air India confirmed in a statement, "Flight AI127 from Delhi to Chicago on October 15, 2024, faced a security threat posted online and has safely landed at Iqaluit Airport in Canada."

All passengers are undergoing re-screening in line with security protocols.

In recent days, several flights have faced bomb threats, raising concerns over aviation safety. On Monday, another Air India flight, en route from Mumbai to New York, was diverted to Delhi due to a bomb threat. After thorough security checks, no suspicious items were found. Air India also noted that both its flights and other local carriers have been targeted by threats recently.

Over the past 48 hours, ten flights, including the Air India flight, have received bomb threats via social media, prompting security agencies to initiate counter-terrorism measures at various airports.
