Canadian Gangster Claims Indian Agents Behind His Murder: Diplomatic Tensions Escalate

The diplomatic dispute between India and Canada has intensified after the North American country accused Indian agents of collaborating with criminal networks to target dissenters. According to a report by The Washington Post, Canadian police have connected the murder of Sukhdool Singh Gill, alias Sukha Duniha, to the Indian government.

Authorities stated that Sukhdool Singh, who was shot in Winnipeg on September 20, 2023, was added to the Indian National Investigation Agency's wanted list just a day before his death. Notably, the murder occurred two days after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau publicly accused India of killing gangster Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Who is Sukha Duniha? Sukhdool Singh Gill referred to as Sukha Duniha, was a former gangster with ties to terrorism. He was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Winnipeg in September 2023. Originally from Moga in Punjab, he fled to Canada in 2017 using fake passports. In 2023, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for Gill's murder via a Facebook post.

Links with Khalistani Groups Duniha was reportedly involved with the Khalistani movement in Canada and had connections with the Devinder Bambiha gang from Punjab. He was also linked to terrorist Arsh Dalla, a key figure in the Khalistan Tiger Force. Reports suggest that after the death of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Duniha, and his associates attempted to revive this group. In June 2023, Najjar was killed by rival gang members outside a gurdwara in Surrey.

Just a day before his murder, Duniha was included among 43 gangsters listed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Criminal Records of Duniha Duniha’s criminal activities mainly involved robbery and contract killings. He was considered one of the most wanted criminals in the region, having operated various criminal enterprises in Punjab and neighboring states. His criminal record includes over 20 cases ranging from murder to other serious crimes in Punjab and its surroundings.

On March 14, 2022, there was an attempted murder of Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal in Malian village in Jalandhar. Despite having seven criminal cases in 2017, Duniha obtained a passport and a police clearance certificate using forged documents, with assistance from two police officers, who were later arrested by Moga police.
