Indian-Origin Filmmaker Anant Singh Joins WEFs Global Arts Board

South Africa: Anant Singh, the South African filmmaker of Indian descent, has been appointed to the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Arts and Culture Council (GACC) during its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Singh, known for his impactful films addressing issues like apartheid, HIV/AIDS, and gender-based violence, joins the council, which aims to leverage the power of the arts and culture sector to foster a more connected and prosperous global future.

Singh emphasized the crucial role of artists in representing humanity’s stories and contributing to global dialogue, especially in a divided world. His participation at the event included attending a plenary session with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who discussed the upcoming G20 Summit in South Africa.

With over 80 films to his name, including Long Walk to Freedom and the Oscar-nominated Yesterday, Singh is internationally recognized for his social advocacy through cinema. He has won numerous awards, including the WEF’s Crystal Award and honorary doctorates from South African universities. In addition to his filmmaking career, Singh is the CEO of Videovision Entertainment, co-chairman of Smile 90.4FM, and a member of the International Olympic Committee.
