Aberdeen / Glasgow, Scotland, UK: Public health specialist Seshadri Vasan has been honored with the inaugural Taylor Medal by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in recognition of his outstanding contributions to patient care, innovation, and leadership. The award ceremony took place on March 25.
Currently serving as Director of Research and Development at NHS Grampian, Prof. Vasan has established himself as a leading figure in global health research. His work in tackling infectious diseases such as Covid-19, Dengue, Ebola, and Zika has gained international acknowledgment.
Under his leadership, the north of Scotland has advanced as one of the UK’s Commercial Research Delivery Centres, enabling cutting-edge clinical trials and improving access to innovative treatments. He has also played a key role in promoting research inclusion, workforce development, and training across the national research network.
The Taylor Medal was introduced in July 2025 to commemorate the College’s 425th anniversary. Founded in 1599, the institution remains the UK’s only multidisciplinary royal college. The medal is named after Jackie Taylor, the College’s first female President.
Prof. Vasan expressed his gratitude, stating that the award serves as a reminder of the responsibility to advance health equity worldwide.
Prof. Taylor, who led the College during the Covid-19 pandemic, described Prof. Vasan as a deserving recipient, emphasizing the importance of strong leadership in enhancing patient care.
Current President Hany Eteiba also praised Prof. Vasan, highlighting his compassionate leadership and dedication to improving global health outcomes.
Prof. Vasan earned his PhD from University of Oxford and is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Science and Birla Institute of Technology and Science. He has also contributed academically as an Adjunct Professor at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research.
In addition, he serves on the NHS Research Scotland Management Board and holds an honorary professorship at Edith Cowan University.
