University Park, Pennsylvania, USA: Penn State University has honored Indian student Om Dobariya with the prestigious 2026 John W. Oswald Award in recognition of his contributions to fostering inclusivity on campus.
Originally from Surat, India, Dobariya is pursuing a major in Business Analytics and Information Systems, along with a minor in Information Sciences and Technology at the Smeal College of Business. He has expressed a strong interest in integrating technology with business and society to create meaningful impact.
As a resident assistant with Penn State Residence Life, Dobariya has played a key role in helping international students adapt more comfortably to campus life. His efforts have particularly focused on ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds feel welcomed and supported.
The university acknowledged his dedication to addressing the needs of international students with specific dietary requirements. By building strong connections and facilitating access to suitable meal options, he has contributed to improving student well-being and promoting a sense of belonging within the campus community.
A nominator highlighted Dobariya’s commitment to inclusivity, noting that his work in promoting culturally respectful meal options has had a meaningful influence on the overall student experience.
In addition to his residential role, Dobariya also serves as a teaching assistant in the university’s College of Business.
Alongside Dobariya, three other students were recognized with the 2026 John W. Oswald Award. Marketing student Olivia Fisher was honored for her contributions to speech and mass media, including organizing events for new students. Political Science student Emily Danczyk received recognition in the creative and performing arts category for her involvement in the Concert Choir and leadership roles. Michael Fowler was acknowledged for his work in social services, religious activities, and student government initiatives.
Established in 1983, the John W. Oswald Award is presented annually to graduating seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership and service across various areas within the university. The honor includes a commemorative medallion named after John W. Oswald, who served as the university’s president from 1970 to 1983.
