Entire family wiped out in Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon despite cease-fire call

Lebanon, Beirut: Israeli warplanes continued their assaults on Lebanon Thursday, disregarding international calls for a temporary cease-fire, resulting in the tragic loss of an entire family.

According to the official Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), the previous night saw the most intense Israeli airstrikes targeting Baalbek city and its nearby areas in eastern Lebanon.

The agency reported that a strike on a home in the town of Chaat claimed the lives of a whole family, although it did not specify the number of casualties.

Eyewitnesses confirmed to Anadolu that Israeli jets also targeted the southern Tyre district overnight, striking towns such as Tayr Debba, Bedias, Maarakeh, and Bazourieh. Additional airstrikes were reported in the southern district of Nabatieh, affecting towns like Kfar Remen and Zawtar.

These ongoing Israeli airstrikes follow a call on Wednesday from the US, EU, and nine other nations for both sides to agree to a 21-day cease-fire to create space for diplomatic efforts.

Since Monday morning, Israel has launched extensive strikes across various regions in Lebanon amid rising tensions with Hezbollah, resulting in at least 610 deaths and over 2,000 injuries, as reported by the Health Ministry.

The hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel have intensified following the onset of the Israeli war on Gaza, which has resulted in nearly 41,500 fatalities, predominantly among women and children, since Hamas's cross-border attack on October 7.

The international community has expressed concern regarding the airstrikes on Lebanon, fearing they could exacerbate the conflict in Gaza and lead to a wider regional crisis.
