Texas Hanuman Statue Controversy: What Sparked the Dispute?

Houston, Texas, USA: A MAGA supporter’s controversial comments about the 90-foot Hanuman statue at Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Houston, Texas, trigger backlash and condemnation.

A supporter of the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement has sparked controversy after making remarks about a prominent Hindu statue in Texas, United States. His social media post, which described the statue as a symbol of what he termed an “immigrant invasion,” has drawn widespread criticism.

The 90-foot bronze statue of Lord Hanuman, located at the Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Houston, is widely recognized as the tallest Hanuman statue in North America. Referred to as the “Statue of Union,” the monument was installed through community donations.

The remarks were shared on X by Carlos Turcios, who questioned the presence of a Hindu statue in the United States and called for measures to halt what he described as an invasion. His comments have been strongly condemned by members of the temple community, who emphasized that the statue stands on privately owned property and represents religious and cultural expression.

Social media users have also criticized the statements, calling them divisive and inappropriate. Previously, Republican Representative Alexander Duncan had made similar controversial comments regarding the statue, questioning its presence. The Hindu American Foundation condemned those remarks and reiterated support for religious freedom and community rights.
