Russian President Putin May Visit India in 2025 Following Modis Invitation

Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to visit India next year as part of a mutual agreement for annual reciprocal visits between the two countries, according to diplomatic sources.

The possibility of this visit is being explored, though no final decision has been made yet, sources indicated.

During their summit in Moscow in July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended an invitation to President Putin to visit India.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in a video discussion with senior Indian editors, emphasized the strong bilateral ties between India and Russia and confirmed that Putin’s visit is under consideration. However, Peskov did not announce specific dates for the trip.

Last month, Prime Minister Modi traveled to Kazan, Russia, to participate in the BRICS summit.

The meeting was arranged through Russia's state-run Sputnik news agency.

Peskov stated, "We are eagerly anticipating the visit. The dates will be finalized through mutual agreement shortly."

When asked about US President Joe Biden's decision to allow Ukraine to target Russian positions with longer-range missiles provided by the US, Peskov warned that this would further escalate the conflict.

Peskov’s remarks came on the same day President Putin signed a revised nuclear doctrine, which declares that any conventional attack on Russia supported by a nuclear power will be regarded as a joint attack on Russia.

This update to Russia's nuclear deterrence strategy comes exactly 1,000 days after Putin initiated the invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
