Netanyahu Seeks Increased Security for Son in Miami After Hamas Leaders Assassination

Israel,Jerusalem: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has requested increased security for his son, Yair Netanyahu, who resides in Miami, Florida, in light of potential threats following the recent assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, as reported by local media on Tuesday.

Yair Netanyahu, 33, has been living under the protection of Israel's Shin Bet security service since April 2023. The annual cost of his security detail is estimated at 2.5 million shekels (approximately $680,000), according to the Israeli news outlet Walla.

Netanyahu’s concern stems from the possibility that Iran, along with its allies, could seek retaliation by targeting Israeli individuals and interests abroad in response to Haniyeh’s assassination. Consequently, he has urged the Shin Bet to bolster the security measures surrounding his son.

Sources close to Netanyahu disclosed that Yossi Shelley, the director general of the Prime Minister's Office, recently approached the Shin Bet’s Advisory Committee for Personal Security, requesting a reassessment of Yair's security needs. The committee has reportedly sought additional intelligence to justify the proposed security enhancements.

Haniyeh was killed in Tehran on July 31 in an operation attributed to Israel, though Tel Aviv has not officially acknowledged responsibility. In response, senior Iranian officials have pledged to retaliate.
