With four decades of experience in TV production and journalism, Sameer previously served as a Non-Executive Director of the BBC and Head of Current and Political Affairs at the network.

The official announcement of his appointment on Thursday followed the approval of the selection process by Britain's King Charles III earlier in the week. Sameer will serve in the role for four years starting March 4, with an annual salary of around Rs. 1.68 crores.
