Georgia Scam Case: Two Indian-Origin Men Charged in Phone Fraud Scheme

Houston County, Georgia, USA: Two Indian-origin men, Mihir Patel and Himanshubhai Barot, have been charged in connection with a large-scale mail fraud and phone scam that took place in the state of Georgia in 2021.

According to court records cited by 13WMAZ, the accused allegedly operated a fraudulent scheme between March 1 and March 15, 2021. During this period, they contacted individuals across the United States while impersonating law enforcement officials and representatives of other organizations.

Victims were reportedly pressured into sending substantial amounts of cash—ranging from $10,000 to $30,000—via mail to designated business addresses in Central Georgia. Authorities confirmed that at least seven victims from multiple states, including Oregon, Nevada, Maryland, New York, California, and Minnesota, were defrauded.

The funds were sent to various locations, including Perry, Warner Robins, Kathleen, and Macon, and were addressed to an alias, “David Williams.” Investigators revealed that Mihir Patel allegedly used a fake identification under this name to collect the packages.

Following the collection of the cash parcels, the accused reportedly documented the contents through photos and videos, which were then shared with other individuals involved in the scheme.

Prosecutors further stated that Himanshubhai Barot was residing in the United States illegally at the time of the offense. Both individuals have now been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud. The indictment was officially issued on March 10.

The US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia is also pursuing the seizure of any assets or proceeds linked to the fraudulent operation.
