Chicago, USA: Indian-American stand-up comedian Zarna Garg is set to star in a new CBS comedy pilot, drawing inspiration from her own immigrant journey and the challenges of balancing family life with the pursuit of the American dream.
The show, a collaboration between Garg and Darlene Hunt, the creator of The Big C, is being produced by Mindy Kaling’s Kaling International, Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat Productions, and Warner Bros. Television.
The series will reflect Garg’s personal story, which includes moving from India to the U.S. as a teenager, earning both a BA and JD, and spending 16 years as a stay-at-home mom before embarking on her career in stand-up comedy.
Garg’s comedy career has already seen impressive milestones. In 2021, she triumphed in Kevin Hart’s Lyft Comics competition on Peacock. She also featured in the 2022 Apple TV+ series Gutsy, hosted by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton. Her debut comedy special, Zarna Garg: One in a Billion, premiered on Amazon Prime Video last year.
Production on the pilot for Zarna is slated to begin in early 2025, with the series potentially premiering later that same year. This marks an important moment for CBS, as the show is one of the network's most promising upcoming projects, even without the involvement of famed sitcom creator Chuck Lorre.
Garg shared her enthusiasm for the project on Instagram, posting a message that read, "Are we ready for this?"
