London, UK: Karandeep Singh, an illegal immigrant from Punjab, India, has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison after being convicted of assaulting a store employee during a robbery in Slough, Berkshire, last year. Singh, who arrived in the UK with "no status" and initially claimed to be 18, was involved in a violent attack on Morgan Duffy, a staff member at a Wickes hardware store, on May 25, 2023. Duffy was struck on the head with a spirit level, resulting in a 9cm wound that required hospital treatment.

Singh, who attempted to evade justice by lying about his age and identity, was eventually convicted of robbery and grievous bodily harm. He was sentenced to four years, eight months, and 14 days. His co-defendant, Satwant Singh, involved in the assault, was sentenced to three years and eight months for robbery.

Despite initially claiming to be younger, Karandeep later revealed he has a 5-year-old child. Judge Sarah Jane Campbell noted his "no status in the UK" and highlighted his efforts to evade justice. Singh's actions contradict his supposed desire to build a better life for his family in the UK.
