Prevent fraud in H-1B visas

Washington: The US has decided to radically change the selection process for non-immigrant H-1B visas. New rules have been brought in to curb fraud and rectify errors in the annual lottery system. Applicants or their representatives have to register electronically online. Passport and travel permit details should also be attached. Even if an individual makes multiple applications for an H-1B visa from different companies, it will be considered as one application based on personal details. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has revealed that this will provide equal opportunities to all beneficiaries. It is called a 'beneficiary-centered-selection process'. From the application registration stage to the final approval and transfer of the approved applications to the Department of Foreign Affairs, everything will be done electronically, it said. These rules will be implemented in the registration process for H-1B visas starting in fiscal year 2025. The registration process will start on 6th March and will end on 22nd of the same month. Beneficiaries should use the USCIS online account for this. Application and payment of fees will be done through this. Companies will be allowed to open their account from February 28. The financial year 2025 will start from October 1 this year. Most of the people who get H-1B visas to stay in the US for a short period of time are professional Indians and Chinese. These are issued through a computerized lottery system. However, for some time now, the authorities have noticed that some people are misusing this system and committing fraud. Last year, there were a total of 7.80 lakh applications for these visas. Some organizations are trying to take unfair advantage of the lottery system by submitting multiple registrations on behalf of the same beneficiary. With this, new rules have been brought to prevent them.
