Washington, USA: Punjab’s NRI Affairs Minister, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to engage with U.S. President Donald Trump over the rising deportations of Indian nationals, particularly young Punjabis affected by illegal immigration networks. Speaking at Amritsar airport after receiving deported individuals on February 5, Dhaliwal stressed the need for international cooperation to tackle immigration challenges.
He highlighted the financial and emotional hardships faced by deported youth, many of whom fell prey to fraudulent agents. He called for stricter action against such networks, especially those operating from Dubai, and urged Modi to leverage diplomatic ties to mitigate further deportations.
Meanwhile, the White House confirmed that Trump has invited Modi for a meeting next week, where immigration, trade, and strategic cooperation will be key topics of discussion.
