Rep. Thanedar Calls for US Intervention on Violence Against Hindus in Bangladesh

"Silence is not an option when innocent individuals face violence for their faith," stated Representative Shri Thanedar as he denounced the reported attacks on the Hindu community.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on December 11, Thanedar expressed deep concern over the alleged human rights violations targeting Hindus in Bangladesh. He emphasized that such incidents have persisted since the nation gained independence from Pakistan in 1971.

In a post on X, Thanedar reiterated his stance, saying, "We cannot ignore the plight of innocent people subjected to horrific acts of violence simply because of their religious beliefs." He cited alarming cases, including the arrest of a Hindu priest and the murder of his lawyer, as well as attacks by violent mobs destroying Hindu temples and sacred icons. These incidents, he stressed, are an assault on peaceful followers of the Hindu faith.

"The United States must take firm action," Thanedar urged. He called on Congress and the federal government to consider measures such as humanitarian aid, economic sanctions, and other available tools to address and prevent these atrocities.
