Sacramento, California: A tsunami warning was issued along a vast section of the U.S. West Coast, extending from Dunes City, Oregon, to areas as far south as San Francisco and San Jose, California, spanning roughly 400 miles (643 km), according to the National Tsunami Center.

On December 6, a magnitude 7 earthquake struck off northern California's coast, triggering a tsunami alert that was subsequently lifted for much of the coastal regions of California and Oregon, officials reported.

The National Weather Service noted that approximately 4.7 million people across California and Oregon were under the tsunami warning before its cancellation.

The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km (6.2 miles) and was located approximately 39 miles (63 km) west of Ferndale, a lightly populated area on California's northern coastline, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Berkeley's police department issued an evacuation order for parts of West Berkeley, near the San Francisco Bay, cautioning residents about the approaching tsunami, as communicated through an alert.

In Humboldt County, power outages affected around 19,000 customers, up significantly from nearly no outages before the quake, as per PowerOutage.us data.

California Governor Gavin Newsom's office shared on social media that the governor is actively engaging with state emergency teams to prioritize the safety of residents.
