IAMA-IL Marks 44 Years with a Night of Recognition, Speeches, and Music in Naperville

Springfield, USA: The Indian American Medical Association of Illinois (IAMA-IL) celebrated its 44th anniversary with a memorable fundraising gala on December 7 at the Matrix Club in Naperville. The event was organized by IAMA-IL President Radhika Chimata.

IAMA-IL, a non-profit organization representing Illinois-based physicians, medical students, and trainees of Indian origin, is dedicated to promoting professional excellence and ensuring quality patient care.

The gala featured speeches from Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, U.S. Representative for Illinois's 8th Congressional District, and Indian Consul General Somnath Ghosh. Key moments of the evening included the presentation of awards, a cocktail reception, a vendor expo, and a lively musical performance.

Dr. Ashok Fulambarker was honored with the Distinguished Physician Award, while Dr. Samir Shah received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Archana Chatterjee was presented with the Dr. Usha Rani Nimmagadda Woman Physician Leadership Award. Additionally, Dr. Utpal Parekh, Dr. Terrence Chiramel, and Dr. Rajeev Kumar were recognized for their contributions to IAMA-IL and the community.

The event also saw the attendance of Gerard Moorer, Deputy Chief of Staff to Congressman Danny Davis, Cook County Board Commissioner Tara Stamps, and Illinois House Representative Harry Benton, among others.

As the evening unfolded, Radhika Chimata shared her vision for the year ahead. The organization plans to continue fundraising initiatives, create a robust database for medical trainees, and expand IAMA-IL's membership among second- and third-generation Americans.

A discussion panel featuring Dia Nicholas, CEO of Advocate Health, along with Chimata, Dr. Sreenivas Reddy, and Shruti Nathan, highlighted challenges faced by physicians, including reimbursement rates. Nicholas also delivered the keynote speech.

The evening's entertainment included a dynamic musical performance by the Ghungroo Bollywood dance troupe, complemented by an engaging audio-video presentation directed by Sridevi Pandalai and Biju Zacharia, with Shana Mohan as the emcee. The night concluded with a performance by Orchestra Saregama, followed by Chimata's unplugged dinner performance with guitarist Vikas Deo.

IAMA-IL also welcomed its new president, Dr. Dilip Shah, and the 2025 executive committee, marking the beginning of the organization’s 45th year.
