Indian American doctors were recognized for their essential contributions to advancing healthcare and reinforcing the relationship between the United States and India.

At an event held at the Indian Consulate in New York, Dr. Satheesh Kathula, President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), spoke to a delegation of Indian parliamentarians. He emphasized the urgent need for preventive healthcare initiatives to tackle cancer and heart disease.

Dr. Kathula stated, “The importance of preventing cancer and heart attacks through lifestyle changes and technology is more critical than ever,” urging the adoption of early detection methods, lifestyle modifications, and culturally sensitive healthcare practices to address the unique genetic and lifestyle challenges faced by the Indian community.

The Indian parliamentary delegation, including Birendra Prasad Baishya, Vijayasai Reddy V, Akshay Yadav, Sandhya Ray, Tejasvi Surya, and Bansuri Swaraj, engaged with leaders from the Indian American community and medical professionals. Consul General Binaya S. Pradhan welcomed the delegation, also highlighting initiatives such as the Bharat Ko Janiye campaign and the upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar.

Dr. Kathula emphasized the significant role of Indian American physicians in improving healthcare in the US and facilitating collaboration between the two nations. “Indian American doctors are pivotal in enhancing healthcare systems, influencing policy, and contributing to humanitarian efforts in both the US and India,” he remarked, noting that AAPI has been instrumental in these efforts since its founding in 1982.

The event also celebrated the achievements of the Indian diaspora, focusing on India’s advancements in technology, innovation, and economic growth. Conversations included topics on healthcare, education, and strengthening cultural ties between India and the US.

Prominent figures such as Edison Mayor Sam Joshi, Dr. Samin K. Sharma, and other community leaders attended the event, sharing their views on enhancing Indo-US relations and committing to supporting India’s continued development.

Dr. Kathula concluded by expressing hope that this platform would foster greater collaboration between the two nations in areas like healthcare, education, and cultural exchange, with the potential to tackle global challenges together.
