NRI Faces Charges for Assault and Unauthorized Aircraft Boarding in Sydney

Sydney, Australia: A 27-year-old Indian citizen was presented before a Sydney court on Wednesday over allegations of assaulting a security officer at Sydney Airport on October 28, 2024.

According to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the individual reportedly forced open an aerobridge door in the international terminal and boarded an aircraft without proper authorization. Upon being confronted by the flight crew, the individual left the plane but allegedly assaulted a security officer in the terminal, leaving them unconscious.

The accused has been charged under section 59(1) of the Crimes Act 1900 (Cth) for causing actual bodily harm during the assault. If convicted, this offense carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.

Authorities Condemn Violence in Airports

AFP Detective Inspector Dom Stephenson reiterated the agency’s strict policy against violent behavior in airport environments.

“The AFP collaborates closely with airline industry partners to ensure the safety of travelers and staff. We will not hesitate to act against any behavior that turns violent or aggressive in or around airports,” Stephenson stated.

While the condition of the security officer remains undisclosed, authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding airport personnel and passengers as investigations continue.

The legal proceedings against the accused are ongoing.
