Indian-Origin Writer Rohan Chhetri Wins 2026 Armory Square Translation Prize

Houston, Texas, USA: Indian-origin poet and translator Rohan Chhetri has won the 2026 Armory Square Prize for South Asian Literature in Translation for his English translation of Flowers of the Siris Tree, the acclaimed Nepali novel by renowned writer Parijat.

The award recognizes outstanding literary translators working with South Asian languages and was announced during Himal Southasian's annual Fiction Fest. 

Chhetri's translation of Parijat's landmark 1964 novel Shirishko Phool was praised by the jury for capturing the original work's emotional and psychological depth. The translated book is scheduled for publication by Open Letter Books in 2028.

Originally from West Bengal, India, Chhetri is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Houston, USA.
