Indian-American Representatives Ro Khanna and Ami Bera Condemn Deadly New Orleans Terror Attack

Texas, Austin(USA): Indian-American lawmakers Ro Khanna and Ami Bera have expressed their strong condemnation of the deadly terror attack in New Orleans on New Year's Day, which resulted in 15 deaths and left over 30 people injured, including two police officers.

The assailant, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran from Texas was responsible for the attack, which has left the nation in shock.

Khanna expressed his grief on X, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the horrific attack in New Orleans last night. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. There is no excuse for such violence.”

Bera, in his statement, showed solidarity with the affected community, writing, “I am closely following the horrific attack in New Orleans this morning. My heart goes out to the victims and everyone impacted by this reprehensible act of violence. New Orleans is a resilient community, and I have no doubt its strength will remain unwavering despite this tragedy.”

Jabbar, reportedly influenced by ISIS, drove a rented truck into a crowd in New Orleans before opening fire. He was killed in a shootout with law enforcement. Authorities later found weapons and a possible explosive device in his vehicle, alongside two other explosives in the French Quarter, which were safely neutralized.

President Joe Biden also condemned the attack, stating that investigations are underway to determine Jabbar’s potential links to terrorist groups and a fire involving a Tesla truck outside a Trump hotel in Las Vegas.

He stated, "The FBI informed me that just hours before the attack, Jabbar shared videos on social media, showing ISIS-inspired intentions and a plan to kill."
