Why Is the Media Targeting Tulsi Gabbard’s Hindu Faith and Patriotism?

Chicago, USA: The Indian American Friendship Council (IAFC) has strongly criticized The Washington Post for describing Tulsi Gabbard’s Hindu faith as a "cult," calling it a direct insult to the 1.7 billion Hindus worldwide and to the principle of religious freedom.

Dr. Krishna Reddy, founder and president of the IAFC, expressed the Indian American community's outrage over the media's portrayal of Gabbard’s Hindu beliefs, emphasizing that labeling her faith as a "cult" is deeply offensive. He stated on November 29 that such claims not only harm Gabbard personally but also disparage the entire global Hindu community.

Reddy highlighted Tulsi Gabbard’s credentials as a seasoned soldier and former Congressional Representative, where she made significant contributions on various Congressional Committees. He further noted that as the Director of Intelligence, Gabbard would ensure the safety and security of all Americans.

Reddy praised her as a "true patriot" and criticized the media for falsely labeling Gabbard as a traitor, a Russian spy, and a Trojan Horse. He mentioned, "Tulsi embodies the spirit of the 'Home of the Brave.

He also took issue with the newspaper's owner, accusing them of profiting massively through Amazon in India while simultaneously promoting harmful anti-Hindu sentiments in The Washington Post.
