6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Nepal, Tremors Felt in Northern India

Kathmandu: An earthquake struck Nepal early Friday morning, with its epicenter near Bhairavkunda in Sindhupalchok district. The quake registered a magnitude of 6.1 on the Richter scale. Authorities confirmed that tremors were felt in the region, causing panic among residents who rushed out of their homes. However, officials reported no casualties or significant damage. Landslides occurred in Dugungdi Bhir, but the area had no houses, minimizing the impact. Mild tremors were also felt in border regions of India, China, and Tibet.

The earthquake's effects extended to northern India, triggering tremors in several regions. People in Bihar’s capital, Patna, as well as parts of West Bengal and Sikkim, experienced the shaking and ran out of their homes in fear. Many took to social media to share videos, describing how the tremors lasted for around 35 seconds, causing fans and household items to sway.

Earlier this year, Tibet witnessed six consecutive earthquakes in January, with the strongest measuring 7.1 in magnitude. That disaster resulted in over 125 deaths, highlighting the seismic activity in the region.
