Bangladesh Court Sentences Sheikh Hasina To Six Months Jail For Contempt

Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to six months in prison for contempt of court by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

A three-judge bench, led by Golam Mortuza Mojumdar, delivered the verdict after a leaked phone call between Hasina and Shakeel Akhand Bulbul, who was also sentenced to two months.

Bulbul, linked to the ruling party’s student wing, faced charges along with Hasina. Hasina lost power last year amid political unrest and is currently in India, evading arrest warrants issued by the Dhaka-based ICT.

The interim government led by Mohammad Yunus has filed several cases against her and is seeking her return to Bangladesh. This sentencing marks a significant development in that ongoing political conflict.
