The political situation in Bangladesh is currently unstable, with no permanent government in place. A temporary government led by Yunus is in power, but opposition against it is growing. In an effort to gain public trust, the Yunus government is planning a large-scale ration distribution program for poor families. According to government representative Ali Imam Majumdar, around 700,000 tons of ration will be distributed in March and April through various programs.
To gain public support, the government is utilizing religious festivals. Minister Yunus Ali announced that, on the occasion of Eid, the government will provide an additional 10 kg of rice to the people. He stated that during Eid-ul-Fitr, 10 kg of rice would be distributed for free to 10 million families.
On the second day of the Deputy Commissioners' meeting, the Food and Land Ministry advisor confirmed that under the "Food Friendly Program," 300,000 tons of rice will be distributed to 5 million families, with each receiving 30 kg at a subsidized rate of 15 Taka per kg. Additionally, 100,000 tons of rice will be distributed over two months through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), while another 100,000 tons will be allocated under the Open Market Sale (OMS) scheme. Special arrangements are also being made for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, ensuring a smooth distribution of food grains, with subsidies and, in some cases, free distribution.
