Wildfires continue to rage across Canada, prompting a state of emergency in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Over 17,000 people have been evacuated from affected areas, with Saskatchewan alone witnessing fires across 6.69 lakh acres. Premier Scott Moe confirmed the severity of the situation, with more than 4,000 residents already relocated.
The Canadian Air Force is assisting in evacuations, especially from small villages. Officials warn the situation may worsen without rain in the coming days. The smoke is also drifting toward U.S. states like Minnesota and Michigan. In 2025 alone, fires in these two provinces have scorched 1.5 million acres.
Canada’s Department of Natural Resources reports over 6,000 wildfires this year, burning 37 million acres. The American Lung Association noted a rise in respiratory issues in the U.S. due to smoke from these fires.
