Dallas, Texas, USA: A Dallas motel manager of Indian origin was horrifically beheaded after reportedly refusing a guest’s request to use a broken washing machine. The accused, 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, allegedly carried out the violent act in front of the victim’s wife and children. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials noted that Cobos-Martinez should not have been in the country at the time of the attack.
Incident Captured on Surveillance: Dallas Motel Horror
The victim, identified as Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah, was managing the Downtown Suites motel when the attack occurred. ICE described the beheading as “unthinkable.” Authorities later apprehended Cobos-Martinez, who was reportedly wearing a blood-stained T-shirt at the time of his arrest.
A witness told NBC DFW, “I don’t know how to explain, but he was there and not there at the same time,” reflecting the shock of those who saw the attack. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Cobos-Martinez discarding the machete used in the assault. Court documents revealed that the suspect left Nagamallaiah’s head in a trash bin.
A spokesperson for the department did not immediately provide further comments but stated that the case highlights efforts to deport undocumented individuals to “third countries” where they may lack legal or familial ties, according to NBC News.
Details of the Attack
According to an affidavit, Cobos-Martinez confessed to the killing during an interview with authorities. The confrontation reportedly began over a faulty washing machine, with Nagamallaiah from Karnataka engaging in a dispute with Cobos-Martinez, PTI reported.
At the time, Cobos-Martinez and a woman were cleaning a motel room. The suspect became agitated when Nagamallaiah did not speak to him directly, instead relying on the woman to translate, the affidavit stated.
A disturbing video allegedly shows Cobos-Martinez attacking the motel manager. The footage reportedly depicts Nagamallaiah on the ground, gravely injured, while his wife and child attempted to intervene. Despite their efforts, the suspect continued the assault, ultimately beheading him. The video shows the attacker kicking the severed head across the floor before throwing it into a dumpster.
Suspect’s Criminal Background
Cobos-Martinez has a history of criminal offenses, including grand theft of a motor vehicle, false imprisonment, carjacking, and sexual contact with a minor. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that he is a Cuban national. Officials said a previous administration had released him after Cuba refused to accept him due to his criminal record.
Affidavit Highlights
The affidavit details how Cobos-Martinez left the motel room, brandished a machete, and repeatedly stabbed Nagamallaiah. The victim fled to the front office screaming, but Cobos-Martinez pursued him, continuing the attack.
The affidavit further states that the victim’s wife and son attempted to intervene, but Cobos-Martinez pushed them aside and persisted in assaulting Nagamallaiah. The suspect removed a key card and a cellphone from the victim’s pockets and continued until he decapitated him. Cobos-Martinez then kicked the head into the parking lot and placed it in a dumpster.
Arrest and Evidence
First responders tracked Cobos-Martinez as he fled the scene and arrested him about a block away. Along with the machete, authorities recovered Nagamallaiah’s key card and cellphone from the suspect.
