Donald Trump Announces Retaliatory Tariffs on India and Other Nations from April 2

Former U.S. President Donald Trump addressed a joint session of Congress for the first time since taking office. During his speech, he outlined the reforms he is implementing in his second term. Trump mentioned that since assuming office on January 20, he has signed 100 executive orders and undertaken 400 administrative actions within the past six weeks.

Trump criticized the Biden administration's policies and stated that some of the previous government's decisions were not beneficial to the country. He emphasized that his administration has accomplished in 43 days what the previous government couldn't achieve in four years. Trump also discussed imposing tariffs on certain countries and mentioned India multiple times in his speech.

Trump stated that many countries have imposed tariffs on the U.S. for decades, and he now sees it as a responsibility to impose retaliatory tariffs on them. He listed several countries, including the European Union, China, Brazil, India, Mexico, and Canada, as imposing high tariffs on the U.S. Trump specifically pointed out that India imposes over 100% tariffs on American auto imports. As a countermeasure, he announced that retaliatory tariffs on these countries, including India, would be implemented starting April 2.
