Washington, D.C., USA: In an unexpected move, the government of Telangana has revealed plans to name a road adjacent to the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad after former U.S. President Donald Trump, marking a first in India.
Hyderabad, the state capital known for sending large numbers of tech professionals, students, and immigrants to the United States, will soon have drivers navigating the newly named “Donald Trump Avenue” en route to visa appointments.
This decision aligns with Telangana’s ongoing initiative to rename prominent roads after notable global personalities and leading tech firms, blending civic promotion with a touch of political symbolism.
The announcement coincides with preparations for the Telangana Rising Global Summit at Bharat Future City, an event designed to attract international investment. State officials also plan to notify India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the U.S. Embassy about the renaming.
Telangana, particularly Hyderabad, is a major hub for U.S.-bound talent. The city’s U.S. Consulate ranks among South Asia’s busiest, with many locals humorously remarking that significant portions of their community already reside in places like New Jersey, Dallas, or the San Francisco Bay Area.
Earlier this year, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy proposed naming important Hyderabad roads after prominent global companies and figures while speaking at the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum in Washington, D.C.
Expanding on this plan, a road near Google’s upcoming largest campus outside the U.S. will be called “Google Street.” Additionally, a major traffic junction will be renamed “Wipro Junction,” and a new roadway will take the name “Microsoft Road.”
Although India already has Trump Towers in cities such as Mumbai, Pune, and Kolkata, with another under development near Delhi, this initiative marks the first instance of a public street in India being named after Donald Trump.
