Donald Trump was found guilty in a historic criminal trial.

NY prosecutor: 'I did my job'

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who brought these charges against Trump, spoke at a press conference after Thursday's court hearing. He said in his remarks that the case was 34 false statements made to cover up other crimes. He said Trump repeatedly made false statements on New York business records and caused others to make false statements.

'These are heinous crimes in New York State no matter who you are. We cannot and will not normalize serious criminal behaviour," said Bragg. A historic criminal trial in New York found Donald Trump guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records.

This is the first time a former or current US president has been convicted of a crime.

He will be sentenced on July 11 - the former president faces a possible prison sentence, but legal experts say a fine is more likely to result.

Trump lashed out at Judge Merchan, who heard the case, saying the verdict was a disgrace.

The ruling comes as he campaigns to defeat Joe Biden in November's election — Trump can still run despite the convictions.

In six weeks, the court heard from 22 witnesses, including Stormy Daniels, who was the focal point of the sexual encounter with Trump.
