\Westmount, Quebec, Canada: Gurveen K. Chadha has created a new milestone in Westmount, Quebec, by becoming the first Punjabi woman elected to the Westmount City Council. In the recently concluded municipal elections in Quebec, she secured a decisive victory over incumbent Councillor Conrad Peart.

Following her win, Chadha expressed her commitment to her hometown, saying she is eager to contribute to the community that shaped her life. She shared that she understands how policy is formed and how strategic decisions are put into action, and she is now prepared to apply that experience locally.

Chadha grew up in Westmount, spending her early years swimming at the YMCA, skating at the Rec Centre, and attending programs at Victoria Hall. She later pursued studies in public policy at prestigious institutions such as Harvard University and Dartmouth College. Her professional background spans both government and business.

In Ottawa, she served as Director of Policy to Marc Garneau, Canada’s former Minister of Transport, where she oversaw policy initiatives and handled national-level responsibilities. In the private sector, she worked in strategy and operations at companies like Shopify and Jobber. She also co-founded Olives en folie, an olive oil boutique on Victoria Avenue.

Over the last ten years, she has participated actively in local campaigns, engaging directly with residents by knocking on hundreds of doors. As a councillor, she aims to enhance local infrastructure, boost commercial activity along Sherbrooke, Greene, Victoria, and Ste-Catherine streets, and promote sustainable public spaces to keep Westmount vibrant for generations to come.

Chadha won the seat in a four-way race, receiving 52.59% of the votes (487 votes), while her closest opponent, Conrad Peart, received 31.49% (291 votes).
