New York City, NY, USA: U.S. President Donald Trump has raised the H-1B visa fee to a staggering $100,000, sparking worries that the information technology sector in India could face serious challenges due to these increased costs. This new regulation officially came into effect on the 21st of this month.

Individuals seeking employment opportunities in the United States will now be required to pay $100,000 as the H-1B visa fee. However, reports indicate that certain industries may receive an exemption from this substantial fee (H-1B $100K fee exemption).

The U.S. government plans to exclude employees in select sectors to address national priorities and urgent workforce requirements (Trump's H-1B visa fee 2025). These exemptions have been outlined in an executive order signed by the President of the United States. Currently, experts in several critical areas face difficulty finding suitable alternatives. In light of this, the President has authorized companies to request a waiver from the visa fee. The U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security has been granted discretionary power to approve such exemptions (H-1B fee waiver).

Specifically, medical doctors are set to be exempt from these elevated fees (H-1B exemption list). In addition to physicians, researchers in healthcare and medicine, defense personnel, and national security specialists are expected to qualify for the fee exemption. Professionals working in energy, STEM fields, aviation, and cybersecurity will also likely be excluded from the $100,000 H-1B visa charge.
