India an Important Partner, Says Canada FM Anita Anand After G7 Meet with Jaishankar

Ontario, Canada: India a Key Partner for Canada, Says Anita Anand After Meeting S. Jaishankar at G7 Foreign Ministers’ Summit

Canada’s foreign minister, Anita Anand, described India as a vital partner for her nation during the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Tuesday.

According to a statement from Global Affairs Canada (GAC), Anand and India’s external affairs minister S. Jaishankar discussed ongoing cooperation between Indian and Canadian law enforcement agencies, along with the progress on the Canada–India Joint Roadmap 2025. The roadmap aims to strengthen collaboration in crucial sectors such as trade, energy, and people-to-people connections.

Anand expressed her country’s gratitude for India’s participation in this year’s G7 discussions.

Jaishankar, who arrived for the two-day summit on Tuesday, noted the positive strides made in the roadmap’s implementation. “Appreciated the progress in the New Roadmap 2025. Looking forward to rebuilding our bilateral partnership,” he shared on social media after the meeting.

In addition, Anand offered condolences to India over the tragic explosion near the Red Fort in New Delhi that occurred on Monday evening.

During the summit, Jaishankar also met with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, where both leaders recognized the growing positive momentum in bilateral ties and reaffirmed their Vision 2035, aimed at deepening cooperation across multiple areas.

The Indian foreign minister further engaged with France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noel Barrot, to review the ongoing strategic partnership between New Delhi and Paris. They discussed expanding collaboration within multilateral and regional frameworks.

Jaishankar also held talks with Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Brazil’s Mauro Vieira, and Mexico’s Dr. Juan Ramon de la Fuente, highlighting India’s active diplomatic engagement at the G7 platform.

This was the third meeting between Anand and Jaishankar in just 45 days. Their first interaction took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in late September, followed by Anand’s visit to India in October. During that trip, both sides issued a joint statement outlining a shared roadmap for the future of India–Canada relations, which GAC described as evidence of “growing momentum” in their bilateral ties.
