Melbourne, Victoria, Australia: Indian-origin lawyer and multicultural sports advocate Molina Asthana has been elected to the Vicsport board as one of three new members during the organisation’s 2025 Annual General Meeting held on November 25. Vicsport is recognised as the leading body for sport and active recreation in the Australian state of Victoria.
Asthana brings a strong background in sports governance and community engagement. She has served on several major boards, including as Chair of Gymnastics Victoria and Chair of the AFL South East Regional Advisory Council. She currently serves as Chair of Handball Victoria and Deputy Chair of Table Tennis Victoria.
She is also the founder of Multicultural Women in Sport, an initiative focused on encouraging and empowering women from culturally diverse communities to participate in sports. In addition, she has been an ambassador for multiple national and international sporting organisations, such as Cricket Australia, AFL, the Commonwealth Games, and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Beyond her involvement in the sporting sector, Asthana is an experienced commercial lawyer. She runs her own legal practice and has previously held senior positions with the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office, as well as major firms Clayton Utz and Minter Ellison. She also contributes to various non-sport boards, including Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand, Moyne Health, and the Graduate House at the University of Melbourne.
During the AGM, which was conducted both online and in person, members also voted in two more new board appointees — Matthew Duck and Melinda Jacobsen — while Ruth Holdaway MBE and Adam Crameri were re-elected.
