Lansing, Michigan, USA: An Indian-origin Ontario resident, Yuvraj Singh, was arrested in Michigan near the US–Canada border after police found him driving a stolen semi-truck.
A 24-year-old man of Indian origin from Ontario has been taken into custody by authorities in the US state of Michigan after being caught driving a stolen semi-truck close to the US–Canada border.
The accused, identified as Yuvraj Singh of Brampton, Ontario, was formally presented before a court on Monday. He faces multiple charges, including possession and concealment of a stolen motor vehicle, motor vehicle fraud involving the misrepresentation or alteration of a vehicle’s identity, and operating with an invalid license plate under the International Registration Plan, according to local media reports.
Michigan law enforcement officials stated that the semi-truck, which was pulling a trailer, drew their attention due to commercial vehicle violations near the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge. Upon inspection, officers determined that the truck had previously been reported stolen in Ontario, Canada.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle’s VIN had been tampered with, which authorities believe was done deliberately to hide its true identity. Both the truck and the attached trailer were seized and removed from the location.
At this time, officials have not confirmed whether Singh was responsible for stealing the vehicle or what goods were being transported inside the trailer.
Singh was later released on a personal recognisance bond. The conditions of his release require him to surrender his passport, remain within the county and state limits, submit to GPS monitoring, and comply with additional standard legal requirements.
