Recently, students from Columbia University held large-scale protests in the USA in support of Palestine. Allegations were made that an Indian student also supported these protests. As a result, her visa was canceled, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that she had voluntarily deported herself.
Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian student on an F-1 visa, was accused of supporting the protests. Following this, DHS announced on March 5 that her visa had been revoked. She reportedly used the "CBP One" app to process her voluntary deportation on March 11. DHS also released a video related to the incident.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem stated, “We grant visas to study and live in the USA, but if anyone protests in support of terrorist organizations, their visas will be revoked. Such individuals should not stay in this country.” Meanwhile, DHS recently launched the CBP One app, allowing people to voluntarily exit the country. In another case, a Palestinian student, Leka Cordia, was arrested after overstaying her F-1 visa, which had been canceled on January 26, 2022, due to attendance issues.
