Modis Singapore Visit to Strengthen India-Singapore Ties: Jaishankar

Singapore: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Singapore, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of advancing India-Singapore relations to reflect current global realities. He noted that India’s transformation and the evolving world order make it crucial for the two nations to modernize their bilateral ties. Jaishankar highlighted the strong partnership between India and Singapore over the last two decades and urged Singapore to seize the current opportunity to further deepen collaboration.

Jaishankar also underscored the significance of the India-Singapore partnership in a volatile global environment, pointing to their shared trust and understanding. He stressed the need for collaboration in emerging technologies such as semiconductors, green technologies, and electric mobility, while also addressing food and health security in the Indo-Pacific region.

The minister addressed concerns that India’s focus might have shifted from ASEAN to the Gulf, clarifying that India’s multi-directional engagement strategy values its relationships across both regions. He reaffirmed Singapore’s central role in India’s 'Act East' policy and predicted a bright future for India-Singapore ties, especially in the context of the Indo-Pacific. Modi's visit to Singapore is expected to further strengthen these relationships through meetings with key leaders and the business community.
