Nalin Haley’s hardline comments on dual citizenship fuel political controversy

Charleston, South Carolina, USA: Indian-origin Nalin Haley, son of former U.S. ambassador and presidential candidate Nikki Haley, sparked strong reactions online after declaring that holding citizenship in two countries is “a completely foolish idea.” Speaking in a recent interview, he argued that a person’s loyalty must belong to only one nation and warned that foreign nationals serving in the U.S. military creates a conflict of allegiance.

During the conversation, host Tucker Carlson questioned whether individuals with connections to other nations should be permitted to join America’s armed forces. Nalin rejected the idea outright, saying, “Absolutely not,” and described the notion as “ridiculous.” He went further, stating that dual citizenship itself is problematic and that anyone with such status should not be allowed to serve in the military. Carlson, a conservative political commentator, agreed with Nalin’s “America First” position.

Nalin’s remarks are consistent with several earlier statements in which he has taken a strict stance on immigration policies, foreign students, and the H-1B visa programme. He has repeatedly argued that migrant workers and international students reduce opportunities for young Americans. In a previous appearance on Fox News, he claimed that some of his friends had lost chances because foreign applicants filled those spots.

Despite former president Donald Trump’s recent claim that the U.S. needs more skilled foreign workers, especially in technology and defence, Nalin continues to be praised by sections of the MAGA base that oppose the increasing number of Indian and Chinese students in the United States.
