Nikki Haley criticized Donald Trump's tariff threats against India over Russian oil imports, calling it a short-sighted move that unfairly penalizes a key democratic partner while overlooking China's far deeper energy ties with adversarial regimes.
Haley, who has long supported stronger US-India ties, warned that Trump’s approach could harm US interests in the Indo-Pacific.
Trump recently claimed India profits by reselling Russian oil and does little business with the US, comments India’s Ministry of External Affairs called “politically motivated” and “unjustified.”
The MEA pointed out that these imports were initially promoted by the US itself as a means to ensure stability in the global energy landscape.
