Jersey City, New Jersey, USA: New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has officially appealed to Indian authorities for assistance in extraditing Nazeer Hameed, an Indian national charged in connection with a double homicide. Murphy addressed his request to India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in the matter.
The case dates back to March 2017, when a New Jersey resident returned home to find his 38-year-old wife, Sasikala Narra, and their 6-year-old son, Anish, fatally stabbed. Investigators later alleged that Hameed, then a 38-year-old working in the U.S. on a visa, had fled to India approximately six months after the killings.
In his formal communication, Governor Murphy referenced the extradition treaty between the United States and India, requesting that Indian authorities review and act on the extradition appeal.
Murphy remarked, “This request underscores the gravity of the alleged crime and highlights the ongoing cooperation between India and New Jersey.” He further noted, “The United States is fully prepared to coordinate with India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs, following both Indian law and the provisions of our bilateral treaty regarding extradition.”
