Iranian state media released photos of coffins carrying senior military officials killed in Israeli airstrikes, ahead of a major funeral in Tehran.
The funeral, set for Saturday at Enghelab Square, will honor 60 people, including top commanders like IRGC chief Hossein Salami, Aerospace Force head Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, and General Mohammad Bagheri, who was second only to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in military rank. General Mohammad Bagheri will be laid to rest beside his wife and daughter, both of whom also perished in the attack.
Renowned nuclear scientist Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi will be buried with his wife, while other fallen officials will be interred in their respective hometowns.
The funeral procession will end at Azadi Square, with President Massoud Peseshkian expected to attend. Over 20 top Iranian commanders were killed during the 12-day conflict with Israel, which began on June 13. Iran’s health ministry reports over 627 Iranians killed and nearly 4,900 injured, while 28 died in Iranian strikes on Israel.
