A powerful earthquake has struck Turkey, with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale. Strong tremors were felt in Istanbul, the country’s main city, according to Turkey's Emergency Management Agency. The US Geological Survey reported that the epicenter was located 40 kilometers southwest of Istanbul at a depth of 10 kilometers.
So far, there is no clear information about property damage or casualties, and officials stated that more details are awaited. Tremors were also felt in Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania. The recent quake has left residents in fear, especially as it comes not long after the devastating earthquake from two years ago.
In February 2023, Turkey experienced a massive earthquake of 7.8 magnitude, which caused extensive loss of life and property. Thousands of people lost their lives, including 6,000 in Syria where the tremors also reached. More recently, severe earthquakes were reported in Myanmar and Thailand, resulting in major casualties and property damage.
