Punjabi-Canadian Tycoon Darshan Sahsi Shot Dead in B.C.

Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada: Well-known Punjabi-origin businessman Darshan Singh Sahsi, aged 68, was tragically shot dead outside his residence in Abbotsford, British Columbia, on Monday morning. Sahsi, originally from Rajgarh village near Doraha in Ludhiana district, Punjab, was the President of Canam International, one of the world’s leading clothing recycling companies.

According to the Abbotsford Police Department, the incident occurred at around 9:22 a.m. in the 31300 block of Ridgeview Drive. Preliminary reports suggest that the gunman had been waiting in a parked vehicle near Sahsi’s home. When Sahsi got into his car, the suspect opened fire and quickly escaped from the scene.

Police officers reached the location shortly after receiving reports of the shooting and found a 68-year-old man suffering from critical gunshot injuries inside a vehicle. Despite prompt medical attention from emergency responders, Sahsi could not survive.

Sergeant Paul Walker of the Abbotsford Police stated that no suspects have been arrested yet, and the investigation is ongoing. He added, “The case is still in its early stages. Additional investigative resources have been deployed, and the matter has now been handed over to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) for further inquiry.”

As a safety measure, three nearby schools were briefly placed under a shelter-in-place protocol, though police confirmed that no students were hurt or directly affected.

Sahsi’s company, Canam Group, is recognised in more than 40 countries for its transparent and sustainable textile recycling practices. Established in the early 1990s, the firm has played a key role in the global textile supply chain.

Beyond his business achievements, Sahsi was admired for his philanthropic contributions and community involvement. Many employees at his company were from Punjab, India, and he also operated a business unit in Kandla, Gujarat.

Coming from a farming family, Sahsi migrated to Canada in 1991. He initially worked various small jobs before investing in a struggling factory, which he later turned into a globally recognised clothing recycling enterprise.
