Chicago, Illinois, USA: Authorities reported that shots were fired at U.S. immigration officers in Chicago’s Little Village neighbourhood on Saturday, during demonstrations following federal immigration raids.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the incident occurred on November 8 when a man allegedly opened fire at U.S. Border Patrol agents involved in an immigration enforcement operation. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.
The suspect, identified as the driver of a black Jeep, fled the scene and is still being sought by law enforcement, DHS stated. The Chicago Police Department confirmed that officers responded promptly to reports of gunfire and secured the area.
“There are currently no reports of anyone being hit by the shots,” police said in an official statement.
The confrontation unfolded amid protests against immigration actions carried out earlier that day by federal agents in the Little Village area. A Reuters reporter at the scene observed police detaining an individual following a dispute between residents after the raid.
