Tragic Accident Claims Life of Pregnant Indian-Origin Woman in Sydney, Teen Driver Refused Bail
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia: A devastating car accident in Sydney has left two families grieving after 33-year-old Samanvitha Dhareshwar, an Indian-origin woman, lost her life along with her unborn child. Dhareshwar, who was eight months pregnant, was walking with her husband and their three-year-old son in Hornsby when the fatal incident occurred.
Reports from Australian media indicate that a Kia slowed down to allow the family to cross the road when it was struck from behind by a BMW traveling at high speed. The BMW was driven by 19-year-old Aaron Papazoglu. Both drivers underwent mandatory testing, and Papazoglu was arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing death, negligent driving causing death, and causing the loss of a foetus.
Although Papazoglu had no prior criminal or driving offences and was not under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, a magistrate denied him bail, emphasizing the gravity of the incident. Magistrate Ray Plibersek described the event as a “terrible outcome for two families.” If convicted, Papazoglu could face a prison sentence. The case is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday for a mention, with the brief of evidence expected by January 18.
According to Dhareshwar’s LinkedIn profile, she worked as a qualified IT systems analyst for Alsco Uniforms. The family had recently purchased land in Grantham Farm, located in Sydney’s north-west, and had submitted a building development application for a two-storey house with Blacktown City Council on September 8.
