Former U.S. President Donald Trump recently announced a new Gold Card offer, set to replace the current EB-5 investor visa. This card offers direct U.S. citizenship to those who can pay $5 million (approximately ₹44 crore). Reports suggest the card is gaining massive popularity in the U.S. Trump recently unveiled the first look of the Gold Card, featuring his photo, during a press meet aboard Air Force One. He stated that anyone paying $5 million can own the card and revealed he himself was the first buyer, though he didn’t know who the second buyer was. Trump expressed hope that all the cards would be sold within two weeks.
Trump believes that such citizenship cards can help ease the national economic crisis. As part of this plan, he replaced the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa Program, which grants Green Cards to foreign investors, with the new Gold Card offer. He initially announced the $5 million Gold Card scheme in February this year. Since his announcement, the scheme has seen tremendous demand from wealthy individuals aiming for U.S. citizenship.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick recently disclosed that 1,000 Gold Cards were sold in just one day, raising nearly $5 billion. He said that around 37 million people globally are capable of purchasing the card, and Trump expects at least one million people to buy it, potentially raising $5 trillion. When asked about the origin of this idea, Lutnick credited President Trump, who came up with it during a meeting with investor John Paulson. Lutnick added, “It’s my responsibility to implement the President’s vision, and I already have a plan for it.”
