White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro has labelled the Russia-Ukraine war as “Modi’s war,” claiming India’s purchase of discounted Russian crude prolongs the conflict.
He suggested the US could waive 25% tariffs on Indian goods if New Delhi stops buying Russian oil.
Navarro said India’s actions hurt American consumers, businesses, and workers while funding Russia’s war machine. He expressed puzzlement over India’s choices despite praising PM Modi as a strong leader.
US tariffs of 50% on Indian goods came into effect on Wednesday, citing India’s continued Russian oil imports.
The US Customs and Border Protection stated that duties align with President Trump’s Executive Order 14329, addressing threats from Russia.
